I must admit that I became a nail polish junkie somewhere between 8th Avenue and 19th Street on the island of Manhattan.
Located in the heart of a funky part of town called Chelsea, 19th Street was the home of my first New York City apartment right down the street from a little place I like to call Heaven, Ricky’s. My sorority sister and present NYC resident Julie Beth Phillips introduced this mecca to me and anytime one of my girlfriends (or mom on repeated visits) from home came to town, I always made a point to take them by one of these fun beauty emporiums. (Side note: Ricky’s is also the home of NYC’s best collection of Halloween costumes, but that is the subject matter for another blog post. Imagine a beauty store that also specializes in a vast array of quirky costumes for people and their pets. It’s definitely a must-see if you visit NY.)
Sadly, my days of purchasing a new nail polish anytime I strolled in Ricky’s are over, but fortunately I discovered another beauty mecca and the closest thing to a Sephora or Ricky’s here in Montgomery: Ulta.
Ulta is awesome. I could go on and on about how this is my new happy products place, but today’s purpose of posting is to tell you that the OPI Fall 2011 Nail Polish collection has landed here in town! As soon as I got my Ulta catalog at home and saw the new colors, I rushed over to check out the “Touring America” collection.

Top: Road House Blues, I Brake For Manicures, Honk if You Love OPI, Are We There Yet?, I Eat Mainly Lobster, My Address is Hollywood, Color to Diner For. Bottom: French Quarter For Your Thoughts, Suzi Takes The Wheel, Uh-Oh Roll Down The Window, A-taupe the Space Needle, Get in the Expresso Lane
Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive Vice President and Artistic Director states:
“The OPI Touring America Collection is a tour de force of instant classics, each with an innovative hint of glimmer, gleam, or glam. Taupe (the season’s g0-to shade) and pear gray appear in variations from dark to light – A-taupe the Space Needle, Get in the Expresso Lane, French Quarter for Your Thoughts, and Suzi Takes the Wheel. Lush urban neutrals in deep sapphire (Road House Blues), rich raisin (Honk if you Love OPI) forever-chic olive (Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window) and coffee brown (I Brake for Manicures) merge with iconic red (Color to Diner For) vivid rose (My Address is Hollywood) and luminous coral and orange (I Eat Mainly Lobster, Are We There Yet?) for a boldly color landscape.”
I did some research online before my trek over to Ulta and discovered that I was swooning immediately for this little guy:
What did I do? I went out and bought him. The description states, “Don’t let this delicious grape pass you by,” and I clearly didn’t. It reminds me of another vampy favorite, “Lincoln Park After Dark,” and I cannot wait for September to hit so I can wear this hue on my fingernails!
My second favorite hue is the “rosy-red” Color to Diner For followed by A-taupe the Space Needle.
Stay tuned for my review of Essie’s Fall Collection which hasn’t hit Ulta just yet, but as soon as it does I’ll be reviewing it.
Thanks for reading!
