One of our favorite projects…before, after and current photos!

Hey everyone! We hope all of our friends out there are doing well! We’re getting spring fever around here. Once Valentine’s Day comes and goes I am completely over the cold and am ready for warm weather, sandals and porch cocktails at 5:00! One thing that helps with my summer time day dreams is looking through pictures from Ashley’s project a few years ago on Felder Avenue (it has the best porch for warm weather).

I know what you’re thinking…”Ashley has done multiple projects on Felder?” Yes….she has! Her current project is actually her third house to resurrect on that sweet little street here in Montgomery’s historic Old Cloverdale. When she took this particular project on, she was featured in Southern Living magazine!

Time passed and eventually Ashley and Barrett sold their home and moved on to other projects! I always tell Ashley she is like the lady with the cats…except instead of cats, it’s houses! Thank goodness she is this way because she is like a fairy slowly working her magic and turning around these old homes in our area!

One of our favorite clients bought this house and has made it her own. When I was looking at the pictures from when Ashley lived there and the ones from after the client moved in I was floored. They really go to show how design and client vision/lifestyle play into a home.

The current owners have lived there a few years and have decided to sell it! Because it is a home that means so much to us and Ashley, and we love the client so much, we thought it would be great to feature pictures of it before Ashley renovated it, after she moved in and what it looks like now with a different family living in it!

A little background info on this treasure and her renovation: One of the most appealing things about this property was it had hardly been touched since it was built.  The house has beautiful stained molding and large pocket doors, adding to its charm. When Ashley & Barrett  purchased the home, they knew the entire foundation would have to be replaced for the house to be level again.  Their fear was that the plaster would be irreparable after the structure was fixed.  They were right.  Ashley was adamant that this beautiful stained molding (the whole reason behind buying the house) stay untouched.

During the renovation, the following took place: completely new foundation, the walls of the basement were town down and rebuilt, new basement stairs, added brand new HVAC, it was completely rewired, new plumbing, all the floors were refinished , new roof, new paint, a new porch was added at the back of the house to match the front porch, all rotten wood was replaced, kitchen and baths were all renovated.

I’m sure you now see why this project was near and dear to Ashley…because it was a labor of LOVE! The following pictures were taken after Barrett & Ashley moved in!

See what I mean by a great cocktail porch? Give me a glass of pinot grigio, my best girlfriends and a sunny 75 degree evening and I am a happy girl!

Are y’all drooling?!!?! I am!! Like I said before, when the current owners moved in they changed the look up drastically! It is still just as beautiful, it just has a completely different look and feel!

See what I mean by drastic change?? I love both looks! Kudos to the current owner and her creative brain! Ashley and Amanda helped with paint colors, drapery and some furniture placement, but that is about it! Maybe we should hire her?! We love a creative mind over at AFGID!

This home is for sale and is located at 797 Felder Avenue in Montgomery, AL. If you have any questions or are interested in this home for your family, email me at Rebecca@afgid.com

Until next time!

Bedroom – Before & After

This bedroom belongs to one of our precious young clients. As a junior in high school, she was ready for a much more sophisticated bedroom. With a little paint and some great inspiration we managed to give her a beautiful, functional bedroom. Take a look…

BEDROOM BEFORE

INSPIRATION PICTURES

Needless to say, we were thrilled to see these inspiration pics! Neutral and sophisticated but still young and fresh.

This is what we came up with…

BEDROOM AFTER

…I think I want to move in! Hope y’all enjoyed!

Beach House – Before & After

This summer we worked on a house at Rosemary Beach for some of our favorite clients. It was full of dark wood molding and was purchased fully furnished with plenty of Texas Longhorn orange (maybe if it were Auburn orange it would be ok — just kidding). We used some of the existing furniture as well as some from the client’s previous house and some new pieces. The goal was to transform this fabulous three story house into what the client wanted…a light, comfortable, more casual and functional beach house.

ENTRY BEFORE

The entry was slightly art-deco and not super inviting.

ENTRY AFTER

A custom table, light rug, and beautiful lantern really warmed it up!

LIVING AREA BEFORE

Can you say dark?? - We were determined to break up all that wood!

LIVING AFTER

Drapery was the key!!

Light linens and textures really help make it more casual.

DINING BEFORE

So, so dark and lots of potential for more seating!

DINING AFTER

A custom banquette provides A TON of seating and once again..breaks up the dark wood.

STUDY BEFORE

STUDY AFTER

We lightened it up and gave it symmetry to help ground the space.

MASTER BEDROOM BEFORE

Orange??

MASTER BEDROOM AFTER

First we rotated the placement of the bed so that it is the focal point. Draping off the whole wall behind the bed allowed us to ignore the window and place the bed in the center of the wall. Art hung in front of drapery is one of Ashley's favorites.

THIRD FLOOR BEFORE

At least there's no dark wood?

THIRD FLOOR AFTER

We use the sofas from the Living Area Before to balance the space and brought the focal point to the windows instead of the huge TV.

THIRD FLOOR BEDROOM BEFORE

Main goal - brighten and provide division between the two beds.

LOFT BEDROOM AFTER

The custom headboard and banquette really help this twin bed feel like it belongs.

We were so happy with the result!  Hope y’all enjoyed!
